"Of all the Yorkshire Dales, Swaledale is, I think, the most dangerous - in the sense that once a man has really discovered it, he will not easily excape its thrall. There is something about it that sweeps a man off his feet & pulls at his heartstrings"
There are places to eat out locally, with traditional Yorkshire country pubs and teashops, and the Kearton Hotel in Thwaite. The Farmers Arms at Muker - 1 mile by fields or road, is a traditional pub, there is also a Tea Shop & Gallery in the village. The lovely Reeth is just 10 miles down dale, and Hawes in Wensleydale is only 6 miles over the Buttertubs Pass, with craft and antique shops, museum & Wensleydale Creamery. Great walking and cycling on the doorstep or just to simply relax and enjoy your surroundings!
In the Summer see the beautiful wild flower meadows with lazy summer evenings, sheep bleating and bird song, the only sounds you will hear! Rich autumnal colours and wonderful waterfalls, crisp Winter days await with a cosy warm cottage to return to after a day exploring the dales. Followed by the many Swaledale lambs gambolling in the Spring amid the cry of Curlews wheeling overhead as well as Oystercatchers and Lapwings.
